🏀 $500 Half-Court Shot Contest Rules
1. 🥇 Eligibility and Entry
1.1. Registration:
Contestant may NOT be HS basketball players. Each eligible person who enters the game will receive a ticket to enter the contest.
1.2. Contestants:
A maximum of ten (10) contestants will be selected for the halftime contest.
1.3. Selection:
The contestants may be selected raffle-style from the tickets passed out upon entry.
1.4. Ineligibility:
Current student athletes, coaches, or referees participating in the game, or any person employed with the school, are ineligible to participate.
2. 🏟️ Location and Ball
2.1. Shooting Location:
The shot must be taken from the center-court line. The contestant must have at least one foot touching the center-court line or standing behind it.
2.2. Equipment:
A regulation size 7 (men's) or size 6 (women's) basketball, will be provided and must be used. Contestants are not permitted to use their own ball.
2.3. Foul:
Stepping over the center line before releasing the ball will result in an automatic disqualification of that attempt.
3. ⏳ Time and Attempts
3.1. Time Limit:
The contest will take place during the official half-time break of the boys game. Each contestant will have a maximum of 20 seconds to take their shot(s). The clock starts once the first contestant receives the ball.
3.2. Attempts:
Each contestant will be given one (1) attempt to make the half-court shot. If no one makes the shot on the first attempt there will be no prize.
4. 🏆 The Shot and Prize
4.1. Definition of a Make:
A successful shot is defined as a ball legally released from the shooting location that passes through the basket without assistance (e.g., must not be interfered with by any person or foreign object).
4.2. The Prize:
The prize for a successful half-court shot is $500.00 cash (or a check of equal value).
4.3. Tiebreaker:
If multiple contestants make the shot: A sudden-death shoot-out will occur. Contestants will move to the three-point line, and the first contestant to miss a shot while the others make it will be eliminated. The last remaining contestant wins the $500.
If no one makes the shot: The $500 prize will not be awarded, and the contest will conclude.
5. 🧑⚖️ General Provisions
5.1. Judges:
A judge, designated by the event organizer, will be present to monitor the shooting location, time the attempt, and confirm the make. The judge's decision is final.
5.2. Safety and Conduct:
Contestants must follow all instructions from the judge and event staff. Any unsportsmanlike conduct may result in immediate disqualification.
5.3. Liability:
By participating, the contestant agrees to release the school, sponsoring organization, and event staff from any liability arising from injury or loss sustained during the contest.
5.4. Taxes:
The winner is solely responsible for any and all applicable federal, state, and local taxes on the prize money. The winner may be required to fill out appropriate tax forms (e.g., W-9) before the prize is dispersed.
